8 Simple ways to a more sustainable lifestyle - The small things you can do around your home, that can make a long-lasting difference to the environment. Everyone thinks about recycling but what about the items that you aren't able to recycle? Having a sustainable home is about the everyday items you purchase, creating a sustainable living. Think eco-friendly household items, living an eco life, upcycling, sustainability, pre-loved furniture, second-hand clothing, and vintage items.

8 MORE simple ways to a sustainable & eco-friendly home

I am a big believer in the idea that making small changes can, in fact, make big differences when it comes to having a sustainable & eco-friendly home. If you have been following my blog for a while you will know that I have a popular post already about simple ways to a more sustainable lifestyle. I am happy to say that all the eco-friendly household items I shared with you, via this post, are still essential parts of my home and lifestyle.

One of my favourites is the Eco Toothbrush, moving away from using plastic toothbrushes and swapping them out for bamboo toothbrushes means my toothbrush will no longer outlive me in land-fill. Why is Bamboo such a great eco-friendly fibre? Not only is it biodegradable but the plant itself is water efficient, it regenerates rapidly, and is also carbon neutral. Winning all around!

So with the success of my original post – 8 Simple Ways to a More Sustainable Lifestyle – I bring you 8 MORE simple ways to a sustainable & eco-friendly home!

Safety Razor

I am actually not currently using this, only because I am 6 months pregnant and cannot reach my legs at the moment *jokes*, but my husband does use this and LOVES it. Not only is a safety razor eco-friendly for the fact that it is reusable, as opposed to disposable razors, but they are also vintage-chic and super on-trend at the moment.

Keep Cup Coffee Cup

I LOVE my KeepCup… I think if you are a healthy-caffeine-addicted member of society, you will have a routine of getting your early morning caffeine or sugar hit. Now think about all the cups you are throwing in the bin, along with their plastic lids and plastic lines cups! Lots of waste right? The KeepCup is made to standard cup sizes and can be re-used again and again. Also, cafe’s are used to them, so you don’t have to feel weird about requesting to use your own cup!!! Linked below is the exact cup I use, and I get heaps of comments on it #corkisontrend

Steel & Biodegradable Straws

I am pretty sure this is a no-brainer! Plastic straws are bad – super bad for the environment and landfill. Also be careful with those pretty paper ones you can also buy, as they aren’t away made from sustainable resources. Steel straws are becoming the rage at the moment, and is a trend I can definitely get behind.

Reusable Tote Bags

Firstly, let us take a moment to unanimously agree on how cute this tote is. Why should you not be able to have something that is super cute but is also doing its part for the environment? Plastic shopping bags are all over the news every-other-day – they are BAD!! So buy this cutie and keep it in your car or rolled up in your handbag for when you head to the shops.

Biodegradable Waste Bag

This item is one household purchased that can really make a difference just by thinking about what you are purchasing in order to create a sustainable & eco-friendly home. All you have to do is make the switch to compostable/biodegradable items and you are doing your part for the environment. Some of these items can be more expensive – but we are talking around $2 extra and we all know you’d pay that to add avocado to your next cafe meal?!

Reusable Produce Bags

Produce bags at the grocery store are a pet hate of mine. I really don’t need a plastic bag to hold one tomato or onion, and I am also pretty sure I am not going to get any funky bacteria for not putting my sweet potatoes in a plastic bag also. I actually opt for no plastic bags when I grocery shop and just leave them loose in my trolley or basket. However, when you are at the markets this isn’t always an option, and that is where this item comes in handy for me.

Water Bottles – Bamboo, Metal or Glass

Water bottles!! This is not rocket science either – just carry one with you at all times. There is nothing I hate more than buying water when I am out and about – 1. It’s a waste of money and 2. PLASTIC. So do yourself a favour and buy a handbag or backpack-sized water bottle you can take everywhere with you. The S’well water bottles listed below keep your water cool for up to 12 hours, so no more excuses about wanting cold water either!! Just think about the money you’ll be saving – water can be up to $4 a bottle at some restaurants/cafes.

Eco-Friendly & Reusable Nappies

So this one is obviously new to me, with the coming arrival of our first child. Thinking about being eco-friendly when it comes to nappies is really important to me, so I have a set of reusable nappies already on stand-by.  I have also ordered a sample pack of biodegradable nappies via EcoOriginals to test out, I am mostly wanting these for when we are out and about or for when the family are baby-sitting.
